2018-2019 Team
The Neuroscience Association for Undergraduate Students (NAUS) represents neuroscience students at the University of Toronto.
Stay tuned for the various social and academic events that we organize throughout the year!
Amy Freeman
Co-President
Hi everyone! My name is Amy and I am one of your NAUS Co-Presidents this year. I’m in my 4th year at U of T, pursuing a double major in Neuroscience and Molecular Genetics, with a minor in Physiology. I am particularly interested in regenerative medicine approaches for treating neurodegenerative diseases. When I’m not in the library, I love playing basketball, weight lifting, and dancing (mainly contemporary and ballet). If you see me around campus, please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself because I would love to meet you! We have a lot of exciting events coming up, including monthly Waffle Wednesdays and a Neurotechnology Conference. Hope to see you at some NAUS events this year!
Emily Thorburn-Winsor
VP Communications
Hello! I am a fourth year majoring in Neuroscience with minors in Physiology and Psychology and am very excited to be the VP Communications this year.
I have way too many interests but a lot of them revolve around neuroscience. I love the brain and its incredible ability to translate the action of cells into thoughts, feelings and everything we see or think about the world. I also like drawing and painting, strange foods (especially weird cheeses) and crime shows.
I hope to see you all at all the fun events we're hosting!!
Katarina Savel
Secretary
Hi everyone! My name is Katarina and I am thrilled to be the Secretary on NAUS this year. I am currently in my third year studying Neuroscience, Psychology, and Spanish. I am interested in the intersection between neuroscience and the law, specifically how our knowledge of the brain impacts criminal cases. I am also interested in nutritional psychiatry and functional medicine, and how we can make changes today that prevent neurodegenerative disease in the future. I am a big fan of podcasts, skating and early mornings, and can often be found taking the long route to class to fit in one more episode of Canadian True Crime or The Genius Life (10/10 podcasts, would highly recommend). Can’t wait to see you all at our events this year!
Nadeem Parthab
Co-President
Hi! My name is Nadeem and I am one of the NAUS Co-Presidents this year. I am currently in my 4th year at U of T as a Neuroscience Major with a minor in Physiology and Buddhist Psychology and Mental Health. I am interested in the uses of CRISPR in the brain as well as understanding the social cognitive behaviours that causes the creation of one’s personality. In my spare time I like to play guitar, play video games, workout, and play squash. Looking forward to a great year with NAUS!
Rima Elsayed
VP Academic
Hi my name is Rima and I’m a 4th year student at UofT completing a Neuroscience specialist and a Physiology major, and I am very excited to be the Vice President of Academic Affairs for NAUS! If you ever see me around and have questions about courses or research opportunities, please let me know I’d love to help. Outside of all things neuroscience, I have a wide variety of interests such as coding, teaching, playing table tennis, fashion and hiking.
Kayli Chen
Web Designer
Hi friends! My name is Kayli and I'm a 3rd year student at UofT studying neuroscience and psychology. During the rare instances when I'm not sleeping or studying, you'll probably find me playing League of Legends or watching the NBA. I'm also a big fan of spoken word poetry and I like to think that I'm fairly approachable, so please feel free to reach out to me with any questions that you have (or if you just want to talk about basketball)!!

4th Year Rep
Hello neurites! I am in my 4th year as a double major in neuroscience and pharmacology. I am so excited to be the Grad Year Rep for NAUS because neuroscience is the coolest major out there (don’t tell the pharm department I said that)!! There are so many things I am interested in but I am particularly passionate about epilepsy research and outreach with epilepsy organizations. When I am not in the lab running stats on my data, I like to bike, engage with the Portuguese community and take care of the planet :). Looking forward to an action (potential) packed year !!!

2rd Year Rep
Aloha, neurites! My name is Lauren and I am thrilled to be one of your Second Year Reps! I am pursuing a double major in Neuroscience and Molecular Genetics, and a minor in English. I have a lot of interests, but a few include neurodegenerative disorders and disabilities, neurodegenerative or not--everything from pathology to public policy management, and most things in between. Another favorite topic is the study of how we learn and how we design education systems, which is part of why I’m eager to represent you through NAUS. I love reading and writing (find me in Her Campus and New College Window), learning to care for my bike, and figuring out how to cook. As a competitive recruit with University College Dragon Boat Club, I spend a lot of time working out, too! I think I’m approachable and I’m really excited to serve our community--please, please don’t hesitate to approach me or dm me! (IG: _laurenlei)
